Below: Hisinger's house was a quadrangle with Berzelius' apartment in the southwest corner, away from the street. North is up. Riddargatan is the horizontal street at the top; Nybrogatan is the vertical street at the right. The scale at the bottom ticks off 1-30 meters. Above: The layout of Berzelius apartment. Berzelius' apartment is across the courtyard away from Riddargatan and Nybrogatan, and does not abut these streets at all. Berzelius' quarters ("Berzelii bostad och laboratorium 1809-1816" = "Berzelius' home and laboratory 1809-1816") is on the second floor (first floor above ground floor in European terminology). The dates 1809-1816 are when Berzelius was a permanent tenant; he had conducted research intermittently at this site for several years previously as a guest, as early as 1802.
